January 29

Well, I was bad on Friday and didn’t track as I should have. I did a great workout and then met friends out for dinner and drinks and probably overdid the calories (two strawberry margaritas and grilled avocado enchiladas at On the Border). I was up 2 pounds on Saturday, but I think that was probably some water retention. I’m sure the food was full of sodium, as most restaurant food is. It wasn’t even very good.

Saturday started out really good, but I didn’t have time for a real workout and Chris came home and wanted pizza for dinner. Of course, he “forced” me to have some. I ate an entire small pizza with onions. I won’t lie. it was yummy. I wasn’t going to track the day. I was just going to ignore it and then count calories the rest of the week and pick WW up again on Saturday. But this morning, I sucked it up and tracked. It’s not great, but I think I can make up for it with some control and good workouts the rest of the week.

Hopefully, that will translate to a huge, non-salt-related loss this next week.

Without further ado:

A potluck at work really threw me off yesterday, but I think I’m still in good shape. Thankfully, the first part of the week was free of food-heavy events and lots of exercise! I plan to get in a good workout after work today and that should make for a decent weigh-in tomorrow (I hope). I’ve been seemingly retaining a lot of water this week, though. I’m a bit apprehensive.

January 22

OK. I am officially back. I was supposed to be back last week, but it was crazy and involved two parties and two dinners out (one being Indian food). From Christmas morning to January 15, I gained about 3 pounds. When I weighed this past Saturday (the 22nd), I was the same as on the 15th, but I weighed again on Sunday and was down to 142.5 from 144. So, I think I actually managed to lose some weight but must have been retaining water for the official weigh-in. I’m not going to worry about it. That means I should see a huge drop this Saturday, perhaps even back to my weight from before the holidays and traveling and eating too much and not exercising enough.

I hate that I went backwards and lost three whole weeks of reaching goal, but it is what it is.

I started the Jillian Michaels 30-Day Shred DVD on the 15th, but had to take a few days off because it made me so terribly sore! I did it on Saturday and Tuesday and then every day from Thursday to Sunday (and plan to do it again this afternoon). The plan is 10 days on each of the three levels and hopefully it will have the desired effect. Yoga a couple times a week just isn’t enough to get the muscle tone that I desperately want. Cardio is great for dropping the fat, but isn’t going to give me the look I’m going for. I don’t want to be body-builder toned by any means, but I don’t want so much jiggle, either.

I’m already seeing a difference, but that might be all in my head. When you feel good, you look good, right? At least to yourself.

I also joined a gym. I’d been thinking about it because my insurance will pay for most of the cost of membership, so there’s really no excuse. Chris joined months ago and several friends have joined in the past month or so, so it was time. I still prefer to use my elliptical on days I can’t exercise outside, but it will be nice to have access to all that weight equipment. And my friend M, who recently joined, told me they’re starting some classes again, including yoga. I can get over my loathing of the gym cardio equipment, too, if I have someone to talk to while I’m on it. And it’s something Chris and I can do together.

I haven’t gone yet, except to sign up, but I’m definitely looking forward to it!

The other news is that last Sunday (the 16th) I went biking with my friends L and M. I haven’t ridden a bike in 22 years and we rode 32 entire miles. The pace was about the same as walking 3 miles an hour for me, so not too strenuous, but I wasn’t even tired after. I could have ridden even farther if I’d had the time (and better padding — those bike seats are not comfortable!). So, I’m pretty happy that my endurance allowed me to ride a bike for four straight hours without being exhausted. I guess I’m in pretty good shape.

And now for Saturday’s menu:

Yesterday … All My Troubles Seemed so Far Away …

Just had to do a shout out to the Beatles with that title.

Anyway, I got on my elliptical yesterday, as planned. I did 91 minutes while watching Law & Order: Special Victims Unit and Dharma and Greg. Since I’m not tracking, I didn’t wear my heart rate monitor, so I don’t know how many calories I burned, but probably 700-800, based on previous stints on the torture device.

I’m sore today, but in that really good way. I am looking forward to another stint on the torture device this afternoon. I was going to get up this morning and do Jillian Michaels 30-Day Shred, but I couldn’t get out of bed early enough. So I didn’t. I may do that this afternoon, but we’ll see. I think I might wait until Saturday to start and make it part of my new 30-day challenge. That way, I’ll do it every day for 30 days, as it’s supposed to be.

The only problem with that is, the first time I did it, on day 3 I had to take a break because I literally could not move. It will probably be as bad this time around because it’s been way too long!

I did well with my eating yesterday, too. Lots of fruit and vegetables. No junk food. Not too many calories (estimated). By Saturday, I should be ready to be right back on track.

My last challenge, I lost 6 pounds. I hope to be as successful this time.

Back on the Wagon

I spent the last three weeks getting through the holidays, traveling, catching up from traveling and eating, well, a lot of junk with some healthy food slipped in.

I haven’t done any formal exercise since December 29. There was quite a bit of walking in Orlando the last two weekends, but nothing hard-core.

Somehow, my clothes still fit comfortably. I haven’t weighed myself since Christmas Day, but the clothes are a good guide.

So, it seems I haven’t done any serious damage. I had Indian for dinner last night and that was my last hurrah.

As of today, I’m back to healthy eating and getting in a minimum of one hour of exercise per day (hopefully). On Saturday, my week resets and I will start tracking, exercising and I will start a new 30-day challenge (I still owe myself a massage from the last one!).

So, stay tuned. The blog will remain on hiatus until then.
